Being Easter Monday, it wasn’t all work . . .

IMBIBE blogger, Morgan Vanderkamer, tends to spend her time travelling when she isn’t reading wine books.

This Easter was no exception, when Morgan paid a visit to “Smarter Grower Champagne”, to taste several of their Grower Champagnes at their London premises.

Choosing what to taste, from Smarter’s 50 different Grower Champagnes, wasn’t easy, so a representative sample from each house was put together by Ken Davey, Founder & Managing Director of Smarter Grower Champagne.

All Smarter’s Champagne Houses produce less than 150,000 bottles a year and are owned, or significantly influenced, by “new generation” owners (i.e. sons and daughters of the family owners who are in their 30s to 40s). All are “récoltants-manipulants” (or equivalent) and produce top quality award winning premium wines with passion and vision from four of the five wine producing districts of Champagne.

Being Easter Monday, it wasn’t all work and Morgan took the time to share a glass of Champagne after the tasting and chat to Ken and his business partner, Svetlana Lindholm, before she moved on to her next meeting.
