All our Champagne Houses produce less than 150,000 bottles a year and are owned, or significantly influenced, by “new generation” owners (i.e. sons and daughters of the family owners who are in their 30s to 40s). All are “récoltants-manipulants” (or equivalent) and produce top quality award winning premium wines with passion and vision from four of the five wine producing districts of Champagne.

Friday, 26 October 2012; is the third annual CHAMPAGNE DAY!
Join Smarter in raising a flute to the
quintessential wine of choice, on Friday, 26 October 2012; for the third annual
CHAMPAGNE DAY - a global celebration of all things related to this unique wine
from Champagne, France.
And remember . . . by
contrast to the big brand names, small growers, or
"récoltants-manipulants”, have handcrafted their limited quantities of Grower
Champagne from individual villages and parcels where the inherent qualities of
the vineyards imprint themselves into the wines. These winemakers are almost
unique in an industrialised age: growing, vinifying and bottling their own
So in particular, raise
a flute of “Grower Champagne” if
the individually distinctive flavours of terroir driven wines matter more to
you than the glitz of the "luxury-goods" business.
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with a roll on the drum
Bring out the Grower Champagne, let the celebration come!
